Dakota Fanning: The Vitorian beauty

Dakota Fanning looked Each bit the prim and appropriate Victorian lady around the pair of her new film Effie in Venice, Italy.

The 17-year-old actress plays the title role within the film, which tells the story of the infamous love triangle between 19th-century art critic John Ruskin, his young wife Effie Gray, and artist John Everett Millais. The film was written by Emma Thompson, who also co-stars.

For Fanning, Effie gives her the chance to take on a role that she has never played: wife. “I think actually in films I’ve done more adult things in other ones than I have in this one,” Dakota told the Associated Press. “But this is my first time being a wife and all of that, which is actually kind of exciting and very fun.”

The film’s period costumes may also be a new comer to the knowledgeable young actress.

“Wearing a corset every day has been…interesting,” she revealed. “It really does make you feel like you are someone else in a different time. It takes a while to get dressed in the morning and to take everything off, and you kind of get a glimpse into what it was like not being able to take your own clothes off.”

Effie will hit theaters sometime in 2012.

Dakota Fanning is only 16 years old, but she has been working progressively in movies since she was 6 years old. It was her second appearance on her latest film Twilight Saga as one of the volturi clan, Jane. NY1′s Neil Rosen had an interview with Fanning about their upcoming movie, Twilight Saga: Eclipse which opens in theaters on 30^th of June.

The movie star Dakota Fanning who plays the role of the Volturi vampire Jane was spotted looking very intense in this Twilight ‘Eclipse’ movie photo (below). That intensiveness really fits the role of Jane who has the power to inflict pain on just about anyone by manipulating their thinking.

I was actually very glad that Dakota got the role of Jane and she deserves it. I was hoping that she’ll appear in more scenes in “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” which is surely a big hit movie of this year.

While watching the movie trailer I found out that there were more action and fighting scenes, along with a much darker tone and it made me turn out to be more excited to see the movie.

The Los Angeles Times calls Dakota Fanning’s turn in the Twilight saga a genre leap, but no mention of Bryce Dallas Howard is mentioned. The brouhaha over Victoria Lefevbre having just died down, is it to early to mention both Oscar nominee Michael Sheen and M. Night Shyamalan wonder Howard might bring oscar caliber chops to the Twilight proceedings?

Are Oz fans seeing red? The New Moon might be shining over Dakota Fanning’s career thanks to the magic of Twilight. Talk of a Wizard of Oz remake has Dakota Fanning’s slippers as well as her orbs ruby red. If she gets tapped, 15-year-old Dakota will play Dorothy’s granddaughter.

Dakota Fanning might be heading down the yellow brick road in a new “Wizard of Oz” sequel that is described by one Warner Bros. executive as a “darker and more action-packed” telling of the L. Frank Baum story.

The movie is being co-produced by Todd McFarlane, the man behind “Spawn,” who promises that his retelling will be gritty and edgy. “You’ve still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place, but she’s much closer to the Ripley character from ‘Alien’ (Sigourney Weaver) than a helpless singing girl,” he says.

In order to follow the phenomenal and surprising success of “Twilight,” the makers of the second installment, “New Moon,” are definitely upping their game. That means a higher budget, improved special effects, and filming on location in Italy. Plus, they are bringing in some Oscar-caliber actors who bring a level of legitimacy to the cast, most notably Michael Sheen, who plays the vampire leader Aro, and Dakota Fanning as his follower, Jane.

Sheen and Fanning play members of the Volturi, the ancient band of aristocratic vampires who enforce the laws of their society. They have lived for centuries in Volterra, Italy, and each member has a unique ability. Sheen’s character, Aro, can absorb anyone’s thoughts just by touching them, while Jane, played by Fanning, can psychically inflict pain.

While Michael Sheen has been an established actor in Britain for over a decade, he became known in America for his layered portrayals of notable people: first, in 2006′s “The Queen” as Tony Blair, and last year as David Frost in “Frost/Nixon.” Both of those films received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture. Sheen’s not entirely unfamiliar with the realm of the undead, though. He appeared in “Underworld” and this year’s “Underworld: Evolution,” where he played a shape-shifting Lycan who was at war with vampires, ironically enough.

Dakota Fanning was only eight years old when she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award for “I Am Sam.” She has won two Critics Choice Awards for Best Young Actress as well. Now 15, she’s transitioning into more mature roles while also attending high school. She’ll work with Kristen Stewart again in “The Runaways” about the mid-’70s all-girl rock band.

Also joining the cast of “New Moon” as Volturi are Cameron Bright, a two-time Critics Choice Award nominee, as Alec, and Jamie Campbell Bower, who was in Tim Burton’s “Sweeney Todd,” as Caius. Graham Greene, an Oscar nominee for “Dances with Wolves,” is another new addition as Quileute tribe elder Harry Clearwater.

Production has already begun on the third movie, “Eclipse,” and it has also attracted some acclaimed new faces. Much has already been made of Bryce Dallas Howard taking over the role of Victoria from Rachelle Lefevre. Howard was nominated for a Golden Globe last year for HBO’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It.” Also, Columbian actress Catalina Sandino Moreno will play the vampire Maria. Moreno was the first Best Actress Oscar nominee for an entirely Spanish-speaking role in 2004′s “Maria Full of Grace.”

So why are these well-regarded actors joining the franchise that is beloved by a core audience but mostly dismissed by critics? It’s easy to say that it’s just the paycheck, but that can’t be the only reason. While “New Moon” is a bigger production than “Twilight,” the budget is still below average for a Hollywood blockbuster. It’s more about changing or expanding public perception. For Sheen, he’ll be increasing his visibility to the broader public, while Fanning gets to show that she’s maturing. Plus, they are getting the chance to become powerful, cultured, and villainous vampires, and as any actor will tell you, it’s more fun to be the bad guy

Kristen playing the rebel may become a significant character flaw if her ire gets raised over Aunt Pattinson’s comments. The Joan Jett project the Runaways will alter her screen image from America’s sweetheart to underground hellhound, especially with a girl/girl kissing scene with Dakota Fanning.

Filmgoers later this year and next looking to see sweet little Bella in theaters will have their ears blown off as rocker Jett (as played by Stewart) will blast those hard candy shells right off the onscreen twilight personas beloved by Vamp saga fanzines. Will Stewart blow the movie watchers out of their seats? Or is she, like Pattinson, getting other film projects going in case the Twilight New Moon box office doesn’t last?

Dakota may have bite marks on her neck from more than one movie with Kristen Stewart. More than with Robert Pattinson, in fact. According to “Life & Style,” the “Twilight” star will try her hand at some girl/girl action with 15-year-old Dakota Fanning in the upcoming Joan Jett biopic “The Runaways.” The movie is based on the book Neon Angel , co-authored by Cherie Currie.The Runaways script reportedly calls for Kristen Stewart, who plays Joan Jett in the film, to wage tonsil hockey with Fanning, who stars as singer Cherie Currie, resulting in their girl clothes being “scattered all over their hotel room floor in one scene,” according to a source. Kristen Stewart has said of her costar, “Dakota’s very controlled and poised. She’s going to have to lose herself in this because it’s pretty heavy.”

Dakota Fanning, who first made a name for herself as the precocious child star of films like “I Am Sam,” “Dreamer” and “War of the Worlds”, and is no stranger to “heavy” roles. In 2007, she played a rape victim in the indie flick “Hounddog.” The Hollywood media followed the unusual backlash this curious role choice gave Fanning, until then a child star nonpareil. Despite the fact that she’s grown up before the camera, Fanning will keep things PG this fall, starring opposite Stewart once again in the upcoming “Twilight” sequel “New Moon.”

Dakota Fanning follows in the famous deadly juvenile vampiress footsteps as Claudia playing Jane in New Moon. But can she play a same age in each movie? I remember Kirsten Dunst was a big hit in Interview with a Vampire. But they better make those movies quickly because Dakota Fanning is the age when a year between films will change her looks dramatically.

I am almost through with Eclipse and I know New Moon needs her. With Breaking Dawn maybe there will be more jane. But Dakota Fanning will look older. How will they explain that if she is a non aging vampire of the Volturi?
