The Los Angeles Times calls Dakota Fanning’s turn in the Twilight saga a genre leap, but no mention of Bryce Dallas Howard is mentioned. The brouhaha over Victoria Lefevbre having just died down, is it to early to mention both Oscar nominee Michael Sheen and M. Night Shyamalan wonder Howard might bring oscar caliber chops to the Twilight proceedings?

Rachel Lefevre. ..remember her? She gives an interview to the Indian Express about how Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart haven’t lost their roots due to their sudden overnight Twilight fame. Her comments seem to be directed at PR for the New Moon film.

How does one go from being part of the biggest teen movie franchise to being a sideline? Lefevre is building a dramatic crescendo in her role as Victoria in New Moon, and since viewers know even before the movie begins Victoria (Lefevre) will be played by Bryce Dallas Howard in film 3 of the Twilight saga, filmmakers are taking a big risk.

After the actress replacement brouhaha, Lefevre is riding a weird parallel universe where she is in the franchise and out of it. One fang in both worlds. Here’s hoping before Eclipse wraps Lefevre can sink her teeth into a new role.

The news that Bryce Dallas Howard was going to be recast in the role of Victoria for “Eclipse” harshed one person’s mellow: Rachelle Lefevre. The displaced Twilight actress expressed her emotions thusly, “Never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10-day overlap,” she said.”

This leaves the fans to ask, how big an overlap did she expect to get away with? And hints that Lefevre was bucking for a pay raise while flirting with not showing up at the initial Eclipse principal photography would have caused any studio to cover their investment.

Despite one article’s claiming Twilight fans are up in arms, this statement begs some introspection. Reports claim the indie flick (Barney’s Version), Lefevre was going to Europe to shoot for ten days, was going to happen in a key period already contracted for Lefevre’s participation. Where is Lefevre’s agent in all this? Were rehearsal schedules stipulated as work assignments for her? Otherwise, she has a legal case.

The scheduling would have left the Victoria impresario out of key rehearsals for the important third art of the Twilight saga. If Pattinson and Stewart in the Eclipse storyline were contending with Victoria as the main conflict, why would Lefevre believe she could skip it? Those kinds of acting rehearsal dynamics getting worked out restarts the cast chemistry and helps the actors convince us the Twilight world is real.

Hollywood is a business. It’s possible the studio is looking to guarantee its risk for the third movie being a success by putting a more bankable actress in one of the leads. Bryce Dallas Howard can “open” a film, as her big budget, big director film pedigree reflects.

If the studio is planning to expand Victoria’s role, much as they have Edward’s in the New Moon screenplay, more of an upper echelon acting caliber must stem from the Victoria role. Better skills will be demanded, not less.

It may be that in asking for more money, Lefevre’s agent made the Summit studio look at who they could get for that kind of money. Certainly it’s laughable to assume Bryce Dallas Howard would come to work for less than Rachelle Lefevre.

But if Howard did accept less, it was a brilliant move. Bryce Dallas Howard steps into the hottest franchise in Hollywood, because an almost unknown was holding out for more money. If Lefevre or her agent intimated the actress might stiff the franchise and leave all the actors hanging, no claim to the role would stand up in court.

There is also the matter of how much darker toned the films are getting. The stakes (pardon the pun) are getting high. The final screenplays in the Twilight saga may need a much more talented actress with a more profound impact on audiences. Comparatively speaking, the role of Victoria could well use more thespian amplitude.

This fan is reminded of the Anne Rice vampire filming of “Queen of the Damned” years ago. The release of this movie was damped to a (mostly) video centered offering. This weakened (and money losing) release was specifically due to the poor quality of the acting. Given that Stuart Townsend and Vincent Perez are not weak thespians, and only ingenues were in the other roles, one wonders if Summit is learning from history.

With another film coming after Eclipse, (Breaking Dawn), were all the actors expected to leave their own scheduling vulnerable for one actress’s part? Pattinson and Stewart could easily have filled that interval with a TV gig or some other part, especially right now. Locations are permitted for certain days of shooting. Why was Lefevre risking throwing the production calendar awry?

Lautner’s career is riding on the third film, or will be. Is it fair to ask the other actors to compromsie their craft and the end profuct movie for one member of the cast?

Summit Entertainment is claiming they were taken aback Lefevre would so casually assume she might forgo the rehearsals, which every other Eclipse cast member putatively was to attend. This argument has merit. With a blockbuster threequel at risk, should the entire studio attend Rachelle Lefevre’s travel whims?

Summit currently owns the vampire drama in Hollywood, but cable and TV are closing fast. Johnny Depp will be filming the Gothic masterpiece “Dark Shadows”. The Barnabas Collins roles (very similar to Cullen, no!) will be yet another vampire piece. With the Hollywood horde moving in the undead direction, Summit was right to protect its investment.

It’s more probably, dear readers, that as the stakes (literally) have been rising for Summit, the vulnerability in the cast roster for the Twilight films was Lefevre. Rachelle left the opening, the sharks chummed the water accordingly. C’est la vie.

Bryce Dallas Howard is Victoria

Twilight fans are all agasp as the former Lady in the Water, Bryce Dallas Howard, star of the Village, replaces Rachel Lefevre. It’s hard to know what scheduling conflicts Lefevre might have had to conflict with an all-star Hollywood saga like this one, but time will tell. This fan says although Lefevre looked beautiful in Twilight she was less than convincing as a vamp who might terrify the powerful Cullen clan by her own resources.

Access Hollywood reports that Ron Howard’s daughter Bryce from ( “Terminator Salvation” star will replace Rachelle Lefevre in the role of Victoria, according to Summit Entertainment, which produces the vampire film series based on the books by Stephenie Meyer. But even with this casting, the next film in the Twilight saga, New Moon, will have Lefevre as Victoria.

“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions, said in a statement to Access Hollywood. “Rachelle brought ‘Victoria’ to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”

Summit said Rachelle would not be continuing on as Victoria, an evil vampire out for revenge over the death of her lover, due to scheduling conflicts. The story arc within the books continues as Edward’s romantic quest for Bella’s heart is “Eclipsed” by the revenge of Victoria’s own star crossed love, whom Edward killed protecting Bella.
