Stephenie Meyer donated $1.5 million to Red Cross

The Twilight author Stephenie Meyer and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers have donated $1.5 million dollars to the American Red Cross International Response Fund from their earnings from The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner.

Last day, a check was presented to American Red Cross representatives and they couldn’t have been more delighted with the outcome of the said partnership.

“I’m so grateful that Little, Brown, the American Red Cross, and my fans made this generous gift possible,” said Stephanie. “It’s amazing to have the opportunity to help those so greatly in need.”

Stephanie Meyer announced this morning a new book to be released this summer.

“The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella,” will hit shelves June 5.
It is the first book to be published since since “Breaking Dawn, Book 4″ was published two years ago,

“There’s only so much stuff you can tell when what Bella sees and hears is all you can tell,” Meyer explains to USA Today of “Second Life,” which was written in the voice of the teenage Bree, a “newborn vamp” who is quickly introduced then killed in “Eclipse” the third story in the “Twilight” series.

Meyer says she wrote the novella “a long time ago” and still gets pressed by her rabid fans for “Midnight Sun,” a “Twilight” tale from the point of view of sparkly vampire Edward Cullen (played in the films by Robert Pattinson).

Meyer put “Sun” on hold in 2008 after a draft of the story went viral without her permission. She says: “I’m not writing about vampires right now.”

Kristen Stewart is giving interviews touting honesty, while subterfuge Robsten boyfriend Robert Pattinson is giving interviews touting secrets. Perhaps the movie of Robsten’s relationship one day will be a cable movie of the week we’ll all want to watch.

But the press runup to New Moon is gaining ground. The “Twilight” fans who think they’ve seen it all should get ready for more, according to Twilight franchise star Kristen Stewart.

In the October issue of Interview magazine, the star told interviewer Dennis Hopper ( in a conversation conducted before the actor’s recent hospital stay) that she’s taking her character up a notch.

“Usually, at the end of a film it’s like I’ve finally gotten to know this person completely, and then we’re done,” Kristen explained. “That actually happened on the set of ‘Twilight,’ and then it happened again on ‘New Moon.’ Each time my character Bella [Swan] became a different person, and I got to know that person and take her to the next level.”

But with millions of fans of the books and film franchise waiting to see where the movies will go next, Kristen said being Bella isn’t easy.

“I have a responsibility… to everyone who has personal involvement in the books—and now that spans the world. It’s an insane concept,” she said. “All of these girls who are fans personally feel like they encapsulate that character. So it’s like, ‘How the hell am I going to do that for all of them? It’s impossible!’ But I’ve decided, if you’re just unabashedly honest all of the time, you have nothing to be ashamed of.”

In the Vanity Fair issue this month, the Meyer authoress ranks #82 in the New Establishment. That’s ahead of Harvey Levin, Arianna Huffington, the Weinsteins and Frank Rich.

Internet reports that Robert Pattinson loved the Stephanie Meyer book ‘New Moon” the best of all the books. Twilight is followed by the sequel New Moon, which is followed by the much anticipated “Eclipse“, which then is folloed by Breaking Dawn.

The books of Stephanie Meyer are now available in digital form released by a company called Scrollmotion in the United Kingdom. Yesterday Scrollmotion and Little, Brown Book Group launched digital U.K. editions of La Meyer’s bestselling Twilight series, a breakthrough for international distribution of digital versions of Meyer’s work.

According to the release, U.K. readers can now download “Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse,” and “Breaking Dawn” via ScrollMotion’s Iceberg Reader. Delivered via Iceberg, it works with the iPhone and iPod Touch, and the trial program will also include digital titles autopsy queen Patricia Cornwell.

Midnight Sun Review

Reading the partial draft of Midnight Sun is a tantalising look from the other side of the looking glass. it’s funny to hear Edward’s interpretations of all the thoughts he hears, and funny too because he is from a much older generation (originally).
Edward perceives and experiences Bella as a new student but is completely overwhelmed by her scent. Amusing also is his comparison to the her father, whose thoughts are also somewhat hidden form Edward. He also makes a great observation about how selfless Bella is.

But breathing Bella causes Edward symptoms like toxic nerve gas and breaks all his control to be vampiric- almost. Edward has a very isolated interior life, much like Bella. Calling her Bella instead of Isabella immediately makes Bella realize something about Edward is off. Does Bella’s lack of selflessness affect her quieted “speaking voice” to Edward?

I happened to Google the term ‘Midnight Sun” and got a pdf with a partial draft. I can’t be sure Stephanie Meyer wrote it, and because the story is first person Edward it reads strangely. The back story details of Edward’s life are consistent with the Twilight story, but it is still not the same as reading from Bella’s experience.

Are Witches Involved?

I have been reading Eclipse and I see there is a mystery about a certain entity stalking Bella. I see werewolves, I see vampires, is it not right to expect witches to make an appearance. But Victoria could have a helper….And with Edward’s specific talents she would be well advised to get some serious help.

There can’t be any normal supposition against supernatural characters. In fact, there is a rather amusing part in the books where Jacob tries to make the case to Bella that being Edward’s girlfriend isn’t natural. But the point Bella hints at is that neither is Jacob.

So it may be the case that a witch can be used by the vampire tracking Bella, knowing that her protectors are wolf and fang, but cannot be expecting a witch and those kinds of powers. The fact that Bell’as stuff is stolen point to a spell…

End of New Moon

The end of the book is such a stunning and climactic read the chapters fall away at light speed through Twilight and New Moon the way I used to tear through the latest Tom Clancy. Only the thought that there is another book, Breaking Dawn, behind the one I am reading now (Eclipse) gives me a sense of security.

This writer might have chosen a lot of different themes and I am starting to wonder what the next series from her will be. The suspense over why Bella is doing all the thrill seeking was a mystery to me, until I realized that Bella had figured out that when she was in danger she still connected to Edward.

I was worried when I thought there would not be enough Edward action in the second Meyer book. I was so wrong! But I like the story with Jacob and th La Push people.

The stronger Bella is invested with the Forks environment, the stronger I feel there is mroe to Charlie and Renee than we have been told. Is it coincidence Charlie is the law? Renee’s strange gifts look lopsided from a human perspestive, but from Edward or Jacob’s point of view Renee’s instincts are dead on.

By the end of the book I can see how important it is that Bella has a significant connection with both Edward and Jacob. When Edward is judged in front of Aro and the Volturi, i feel that this is what Alice demonstrates keeping Bella human can do for the vampire side.
