Breaking Dawn passes $500M Mark in Global Box Office

The most recent chapter in the “Twilight” series has now grossed $508 million across the world since its release 12 days ago. The film has earned $223 million locally, producing it one of 12 films to gross $220 million in 10 days.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the success of this film and a franchise that the fans have continued to support over the past several years,” Summit Entertainment Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger said in a joint assertion.

“Thank you to all involved with the films from the actors, filmmakers and Stephenie Meyer to the most important group of all, the global fan base that continues to drive a desire for more Edward, Jacob and Bella.”

Summit predicted that the first film in the two-part finale to the “Twilight Saga” would bring in $611 million in first-cycle revenue and $228 million in profits.

The final two movies in the “Twilight” franchise were projected to produce more than $1.2 billion in revenues and $447 million in profits for the studio and its investors, according to a confidential investor prospectus previously obtained by TheWrap.

Experts believed that “Breaking Dawn” would have to consider in about $650 million at the worldwide box office to achieve the $228 million in profit that Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the franchise.

The last two “Twilight” movies, “Eclipse” and “New Moon,” grossed roughly $700 million each in worldwide box office.
